Three minutes to understand how to check whether the wire is aging

We all know that when the cable is aging for household or commercial use, it is easy to cause danger if the business continues to use it. But how to check whether the wire is aging still requires a certain technique.

The wire is mainly insulated by the outer layer of sheath. After a long time, it is corroded by corrosive gas, and the insulation performance gradually declines. It gradually ages and becomes hard, becomes brittle or falls off. At this time, it does not have an insulation effect. In fact, the direct cause of the aging failure of the wire and cable is the breakdown of the insulation. The editor of Jinke Wire and Cable teaches you two points on how to judge whether the wire is aging, and check it in time to eliminate hidden dangers.

1. "Check the appearance along the wire, darkening and hard cracks are seen. Bending the wire with both hands for insulation, stiff and cracked skin." It means to observe the insulation layer along the wire. If the color of the insulation layer is found to be tarnished, darkened, or changed Hard, cracked, and partially peeled off.

When the insulated wire is bent with both hands, the wire is stiff, or the insulation layer is cracked, the insulation layer falls off, etc., which shows that the wire has experienced different degrees of aging and severe aging.

2. "Accurate method to measure insulation, megohm is not low. The humidity value in rainy days can be small, and the value can be half as small." It means that the insulation resistance meter can be used to measure the insulation of electrical circuits to determine the insulation status of the circuit more accurately.

The insulation of different lines has different allowable values. For example, the insulation resistance of the household 220V line in use should not be less than 0.22 megohm; the value of wet and rainy day should not be less than 0.1 megohm. If the measured insulation resistance value is less than the above value, it indicates that there is a problem with the insulation of the electrical circuit. Of course, under different usage conditions, the service life of the cable is different, which requires everyone to deal with the situation by themselves.

What are the reasons for the reduction of cable insulation

Everything in the world has its own attributes and levels. What's more, cable products are widely used and have a wide variety of types. Even if you are in the industry, you may not know everything. This article compiled by today's editor discusses the reasons that lead to reduced cable insulation. A brief introduction, hope to help you understand better.

1. External force damage

Judging from the operational analysis in recent years, especially in today's rapid economic development, a considerable number of cable failures are now caused by mechanical damage.

Second, the insulation is damp

This situation is also very common, and generally occurs at the cable joints in direct burial or piping. For example: unqualified cable joints and joints made in humid weather conditions will cause the joints to enter water or water vapor. Over time, water branches will form under the action of the electric field, which will gradually damage the insulation strength of the cable and cause failure.

Three, chemical corrosion

The cable is directly buried in the area with acid and alkali, which will often cause the cable armor, lead skin or outer protective layer to be corroded. The protective layer suffers from chemical corrosion or electrolytic corrosion for a long time, which causes the protective layer to fail and reduce the insulation. The cable is faulty. Chemical: The company’s cable corrosion is quite serious.

4. Long-term overload operation

Overload operation, due to the thermal effect of the current, the conductor will inevitably heat up when the load current passes through the cable. At the same time, the skin effect of the charge, the eddy current loss of the steel armor, and the insulation loss will also generate additional heat, which will increase the temperature of the cable. During long-term overload operation, excessively high temperature will accelerate the aging of the insulation and cause insulation breakdown. Especially in the hot summer, the temperature rise of the cable often leads to the first breakdown of the weak insulation of the cable, so in the summer, there are more cable faults.

Five, cable connector failure

Cable joints are the weakest link in the cable line, and cable joint failures caused by direct faults (poor construction) by personnel often occur. In the process of making cable joints, if there are reasons such as insufficient joint crimping, insufficient heating, etc., the insulation of the cable head will be reduced, which will cause an accident.

Six, environment and temperature

The external environment and heat source of the cable can also cause the cable to overheat, insulation breakdown, or explosion and fire.

Seven, other factors

Other reasons such as normal aging of the cable body or natural disasters.

How to distinguish low-voltage cables and high-voltage cables

There are many types of cables, but they can be basically divided into low-voltage cables and high-voltage cables. How should the two be distinguished? Some people say it is 250V, and some say it is 1000V. So how do you distinguish between high voltage and low voltage?

According to my country's industry standard electrical industry working regulations, electrical equipment is divided into two types: high voltage and low voltage: high voltage: the voltage of the equipment to ground is above 250V, and low voltage: the voltage of the equipment to ground is 250V and below. According to the 2009 power line regulations, electrical work is divided into two types: high voltage and low voltage:

High-voltage electrical equipment: those with a voltage level of 1000V and above; low-voltage electrical equipment: those with a voltage level of less than 1000V; usually, high-voltage lines refer to 3-10 kV lines; low-voltage lines refer to 220/380 volt lines.

What do the red, yellow and green "three brothers" of home improvement wires represent

In life, we will come into contact with home improvement wires, which come in various colors such as red, yellow, green, blue, etc. Do you know the meaning of wire colors? It is recommended that the color of the wire must be understood clearly, so that it is safer to use.

What line does each color of home improvement wire represent? Home improvement wires are generally divided into 6 colors: red, yellow, blue, green, black, yellow and green. Live wire (represented by L): red, yellow, green; zero wire (represented by N): blue; ground wire (represented by E): yellow and green.

When decorating the home, it is recommended to choose only one color among yellow, green and red for the fire wire. It should be noted that red must be the fire wire, blue for the neutral wire, and yellow and green for the ground wire as required.

If there is a 380V voltage in the home, then the three colors of the live wire must be selected. At this time, we can choose yellow, green and red according to the circuit for the lower port of the air switch, and use these three colors to distinguish different circuits.

What are the benefits of dividing wires by color? National standards require different cables to use different colors (countries). The main purpose is to correctly distinguish the phase wires, neutral wires, and protective ground wires in the wires to prevent incorrect operations. General electricians will separate colors according to requirements.

If the color of the wire is used at will, there will be safety hazards in the future use and maintenance process. For example, in order to facilitate diagrams and save materials during circuit transformation, yellow wires are used as live and neutral wires. When repairing in the future, it is difficult for electricians to find the live and neutral wires, which brings inconvenience to repairs and easily causes construction safety accidents.

Install the wires according to the specified colors, we can clearly see the live wire, neutral wire and ground wire, reduce the possibility of wrong connection in the line, and facilitate future maintenance, and can also avoid misoperation caused by unclear lines, which can cause people to get up. To a very good protective effect.

Therefore, the color separation of the wires in the circuit is very important, and the wires must be separated when decorating the home. If the installed lines do not have uniform color separation, it is recommended to mark the lines separately and clearly mark them on the circuit diagram for future review.
